Find out moreIf it's not broken, don't fix it. But make it meaner, by all means! Boasting 180 hp and 140 Nm, the 1301 cm³ LC8 V-twin has undergone an almost imperceptible but impactful development. Optimized to be lighter while retaining its vigorous character, this powerplant represents the gold standard of V-twin evolution. And, with the engine and linkage supports adding to the overall structure of the whole package, it is literally the part that holds the BEAST together.
The chassis, which uses the engine as a means of increasing torsional rigidity, makes the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R 3 times stiffer than the previous model. The result is a less stressful riding position that inspires confidence, resulting in an ultimately faster ride. All this is achieved by maximizing the response of the chassis and front tire. The frame also benefits from thicker diameter tubes with thinner walls, resulting in the largest unit value in terms of weight reduction on the bike, with 2 kg less than the previous model.
Finding the optimal seating position is easy thanks to the 760 mm wide adjustable handlebars. Riders can customize the distance as they prefer, with 4 positions in a range of 21 mm forward and backward; this makes it easier to enter corners and is critical for holding firm on straights.
There is not much to say about the superstructure of the new KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R, as there is very little to talk about. But that is precisely why we like it! Aggressive and menacing, the superstructures and panels had to fulfill two purposes: to respect all ergonomic features and to cut weight wherever possible. With this in mind, calculations were made for each panel and plate to achieve the optimal thickness and reduce their size wherever possible. The only thing left in weight was the personality.
While the headlamp faceplate doubles as an air intake, it is the dual LED headlamps that impress in all their glory. The sharp, menacing lines enhance the overall look of the BEAST, while also providing plenty of light when it gets dark. Thanks to the daytime running light, you will be sure to be noticed: not only will you collect success on the road, but more importantly you will be more visible to other drivers.
